The Brigade of Midshipmen's athletic department has been working towards fielding a varsity football squad since before the turn of the 21st century. Finally, in December of 2022, the Naval Academy's Board of Trustees voted to approve the addition of the 36th varsity sport at the United States Naval Academy. In 2025, the Navy Football team will take the field for the first time, fulfilling the dreams of generations of midshipmen.
