Brad Holmes was born on July 29, 1979, and embarked on his football career at the University of Georgia as a player. After graduating, he joined the St. Louis Rams in 2003 as a scouting intern. Holmes worked his way up the Rams' scouting department, eventually becoming the team's college scouting director.
